Gorillaz is over. Why does it have to be over? That band was one of the genuinely few things I got all childishly excited about. It was a real band that consistently released songs that I adored and vibed with. And of course there was the art, the characters, the amazing website and the plot. It influenced my art heavily and still to this day.
But its over, that tap flows no more.
I mean many people hold out hope there will be a phase 4 once things get sorted out, but seeing as how quickly and poorly they dealt with phase 3, I can't conceive of there ever being anymore. There were such grand plans for Plastic Beach, especially its story. Sadly I think they got over ambitious, the money ran out, and they were forced to scramble out an "ending" that clearly was not what the creators were building us up for.
All this stuff about the Boogie man and the Book of M.A.N, the Cyborg and Giant Russel, Noodle coming back... none of it ever was resolved or led anywhere and that frustrates the hell out of me. Hell even that whole thing with the Evangelist! What a waste, he was never able to be used the way they planned! He was just featured once in the game then never again.
And talk about the Plastic Beach game! They clearly had plans to be updating that for years, but again, money runs out and the damn thing sits dormant for a year, gets updated one last time and then never again. What about finding all those pages, or those areas that the game indicated would be open later in the game?
Too bad, game over. Take your crummy resolution and go home. Theres no more and there will never be anymore.
I would love for time to prove me wrong though, trust me. If I were to go online in two years and find out that Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett were back together and working on new Gorillaz stuff, I'd probably go blind from rapture.
But I doubt it.
